Neil and Eileen moved from the United Kingdom, fell in love with the Kaikoura region and decided to build Manakau Lodge. Their extensive travels around the world have given them a special insight into the needs and expectations of the independent traveller. They have many years in the hospitality business themselves; from the Royal Albert Hall in London to Walt Disney World in Florida; a pizzeria in Paris to a country pub in Oxfordshire. Anyone with a passion for photography will find themselves very much at home in Neil’s company – his spare time is filled by photographing the stunning local landscape and his work is on show at the Lodge.
“When the only sound to disturb the calm is the birdsong from the trees, you know you’ve found a true rural retreat. We look forward to welcoming you to Manakau Lodge”

Excellent Stay We stayed for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time at the lodge. Neil is a welcoming host who ensured we were looked after throughout our stay. He is also a great chef and presented a fantastic breakfast every morning!
Wow – Amazing Accommodation – My husband and I stayed only for one night. This is definitely 5-star accommodation. The lodge was immaculate and the service was wonderful. We booked a room looking out to the snow-capped alps and the view was spectacular. The room was big and classy. We had two comfortable chairs in our room which was a bonus. The TV on the wall was a large screen with added speakers giving it a great sound. I have to say something about the beds here as they were amazingly comfortable. I was so impressed with the bed that I will be exploring if I can buy one when i return home. other added touches were the bathrobes in the wardrobe and the super large shower which was amazing. I also have to include the first class service we received by the owner Neil who made us feel welcome and who cooked us a very classy full breakfast which was amazingly delicious and extremely well presented. I highly recommend this holiday accommodation to anyone who wants to experience a five-star service. Thank you, Neil, for giving us a wonderful stay.
