Historic Experiences
New Zealand recently celebrated its 150th year as a “colony”. The cities of Dunedin and Christchurch were among the first settled and Auckland and Wellington were mere “canvas towns” in the mid to late 1800’s.
The large homes built by wealthy early settlers were predominantly built of timber and many of these were destroyed by fire on in the 1950’s and 1960’s demolished to make way for “progress".
Our 2 historic boutique hotels, both built of timber are now restored to their former glory giving visitors to New Zealand an opportunity to experience the elegance of the past with modern facilities.
In the words of NZ writer Katherine Mansfield "I thank God I was born in New Zealand. A young country is a real heritage". The Charlotte Jane in Christchurch and Kincaid Lodge in Kaikoura have all stood for over 100 years and are magnificently restored.
